Where do we start? King of The Hammers 2022 was one for the record books! We started our journey in Florida clocking 2100mi in right at 36hrs with only a few hours of sleep. One blow out on the trailer all they way to Johnson Valley. Dustin Robbins and Seth Holmes had been on the lake bed a few days prior testing the new CT Race WorxCan-Am Off-Road pro mod car. Testing was going well and the car was extremely dialed in! Until……. We developed a fuel leak and had to completely tear the car apart to remove the fuel bladder in hopes of it being repairable. We found the defect and luckily were able to get it repaired and back in the car on Saturday knowing we had to qualify on Monday. Not to mention all of the small things the car needed to get through TECH. The sun comes up Monday morning and we are feeling extremely confident going into qualifying, Dustin even told us he was going to bonsai the run knowing our kick ass team could handle whatever happens! Needless to say he full sent it! Coming through the Ford Motor Company Bronco arch he jumped the car directly into a rock the size of a Volkswagen and blew out driver side Vision Wheel in the process. Two turns to go he was still able to drive it through the timers. We would of had pole position but that cost us a 24th place start for the ProMod UTV race on Thursday. We get the car back to the trailer and asses the damage. Surprisingly there was no noticeable damage to the chassis or the suspension. Standard bolt check and a left front axle we were good to go. At least we thought. Tuesday morning a little more prep and some testing, low and behold we noticed a driveline vibration. Back to the trailer to diagnose, after about half of the day trying to iron it out we determined that the front differential was hurt. We worked on the car until 1am inspecting and swapping differentials for one last day of testing. I got hit by the hammers bug that night and was feeling terrible. We all got some rest to wake up Wednesday morning to Dustin having the same bug! About mid morning Dustin tells me that if he does not feel any better by that afternoon that I would have to CoDawg for Bill Hilliard behind the wheel. Don’t get me wrong it would have been epic but I was not prepared and wanted nothing more than for Dustin to be behind the wheel. Luckily he started to come around that afternoon after 4-5 hrs of pre running. The car was ready. The guys were ready. Race day, off the line the boys were instantly making up ground. By mile 25 we had moved into 21st position. By mile 60 we had moved into 16th. With a flop over and two broken belts we kept jockeying our way towards the top 10. After clearing remote pit 2 they were now in the hardest rock sections of the course. Unfortunately another car was hung up in the normal line and the boys had to send it up the death line. They cleared it but in the process broke the diff we installed the day before. Leaving them in 3 wheel drive and knowing the last few sections of the course would be impossible without 4wd. Dustin made to decision to save the car and called it. Completed 131 miles of the hardest offroad race in the world! And still drove the car back to the trailer. All I can say is I’m extremely proud of our team for all the hard work and dedication these two weeks! Thank you everyone who helped us all those long days and late nights!
