Wellllllll KOH 2022 is a rap and it was a fun one!
Here’s a little RECAP!
We went out for qualifying checked out the course before found a nice right hand line and ran it a few times pretty smoothly with 0 issues.
The next morning qualifying comes around and we were running strong into the rocks and when we hit the hill one spot was deeper than it was and I plowed the rock hill with the front of my car and ended up breaking the axle. We had to back down the hill and try a different route which put our qualifying position a terrible spot.
We ended up starting around 85th out of 125 or so and had some work to do come race day.
Race day came and we took off the line hunting the desert loop down! By the end of our first lap we passed between 25-30 cars and only had a small tire leak! We got that fixed when we were getting fuel and we kept on trucking! Lap 2 rolls around we made it into the rocks and coming down outer limits we had a close call of rolling over but we were saved by a very generous rock which kept us on all fours as I was able to drive out of it! We made it through 2/3 of the harder rock trails without issues and somewhere on a faster paced trails in one of the transition trails our power steering box randomly just shut off and it was a major pain in the butt to steer. Something was almost binding in the power steering box not allowing the wheels to steer well. We ended up limping it down and through the desert to the camp. From what I was told we were 5th in class up to that point even with all the dust we had to fight through on lap 1!
Overall we were extremely happy to be out there and had a grand old time and we’re extremely blown away with the environment there.
It doesn’t quite compare to the east coast rocks!
These rocks out here are often 2 or 3 times bigger than majority of the east coast stuff and it’s very unforgiving!
Cody Martin did very well with a overall 5th place finished with minimal damage to the car and he definitely showed out for Team Martin Racing
Great job Cody!! <img src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t39/1/16/1f64c_1f3fc.png" alt="
